Slawomir Mrozek

Author

Slawomir Mrozek was born in Borzecin, Poland, in 1930. 1957 saw the publication of his first book entitled ›Slon‹ (›The Elephant‹), a collection of satirical short stories. This was followed by works such as ›Tango‹, ›The Emigrants‹ and ›Striptease‹, which made him world famous. In 1968 he went into exile, living many years in Paris and later in Mexico. In 1996 he returned to Poland but now lives in the South of France.

»Mrozek is a humorist – and his intentions are especially serious. He is a satirist – and he mocks the world in order to improve it. He is a man of the absurd – and he focuses on the nonsensical in order to evoke reason.« Marcel Reich-Ranicki
