Tomi Ungerer

Author

Tomi Ungerer, born in 1931 in Strasbourg, works as a painter, illustrator, children’s book author and graphic artist, and now lives with his family in Ireland and in Strasbourg. Tomi Ungerer has been awarded with numerous prizes, including the ›Federal Cross of Merit‹ for his contribution to German-French cultural understanding and the ›Hans Christian Andersen Preis‹, an award which is regarded as the ›Nobel Prize‹ of children’s literature. In October 2000 he was named as an ambassador for children and education by the European Council. In 2007 the French state dedicated a museum to Tomi Ungerer in his home town of Strasbourg. Tomi Ungerer’s books are published in 40 languages.

Barbara Hazen

Author

Barbara S. Hazen was born in Dayton (Ohio) in 1930. Having completed her studies at Columbia University, she worked for the ›Ladies’ Home Journal‹ magazine, where she held various positions including that of poetry editor. She left the magazine in order to take up a post as editor for ›Western Publishing Company‹, and it was here that she began writing children’s books herself. She has been a full-time writer ever since the birth of her son in 1960. She has, to date, published more than 80 books, mainly for children and young adults and has received various awards for them. Barbara Shook Hazen now lives in Manhattan (New York) and Otis (Massachusetts).
