Mondadori pre-empts Italian rights of Stefanie vor Schulte’s Boy with a Black Rooster

Almost one month before publication, Mondadori pre-empted Italian rights of Stefanie vor Schulte’s debut novel Boy with a Black Rooster. The novel is going to be out in shops on 25 August and booksellers are looking forward to it:

»I have just finished reading the book and am utterly thrilled – finally, a rare jewel amongst all the noise. The language – what a gem this is!«
Sybilla Irmscher / Thalia im Eastgate, Berlin

»This is a wonderful book. I haven't read language like this in a long time. Luminous images, lively dialogues imbued with gentle humour, characters that you immediately take to your heart.«
Ellen Beckmann-Sievers / Buchhandlung Kottmann, Marl

Spanish press heaps praise on Joachim B. Schmidt’s Kalmann

Spanish press heaps praise on Joachim B. Schmidt’s Kalmann

Here are a few translated quotes for Kalmann by Joachim B. Schmidt (published by Gatopardo):

»There’s a crime to solve, certainly, but that’s only a small part of this powerful novel.«
El País, Madrid

»The brushstrokes of humour are impeccable; the attention to detail turns this work of fiction into a tender portrait of the Icelandic landscape and its inhabitants«.
Marta Marne / El Periódico, Barcelona

»Kalmann (Gatopardo) is quite a character in his Icelandic small town, the likeable, not entirely normal – nor stupid – boy that everyone knows. But when it comes to a missing person investigation, he can offer the best explanation.«
La Vanguardia, Barcelona

»His abilities may appear impaired, but he impresses through his kindness and courage; attributes which are more important to solving the case than all the usual police paraphernalia.«
Verónica Piñera / El Comercio, Gijón

»A protagonist who is hard to forget, and who occasionally finds his wires crossed.«
El Periódico, Barcelona

Off-the-cuff entry to #4 on the Spiegel bestseller list for Daniela Krien’s The Fire

Off-the-cuff entry to #4 on the Spiegel bestseller list for Daniela Krien’s The Fire

Daniela Krien's The Fire has shot straight to #4 on the Spiegel bestseller list upon publication. And the press is in a frenzy:

»It's pure pleasure to read Daniela Krien's novel.«
Maria Frisé / Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, Frankfurt

»This being a Daniela Krien novel, the plot develops with summer-like ease; its intellectual depth is revealed almost incidentally.«
Der Spiegel, Hamburg

»Not one word too many.«
Peer Teuwsen / NZZ am Sonntag, Zürich

»Daniela Krien is a master of the succinct form.«
Rainer Moritz / Deutschlandfunk Kultur, Cologne

»The novel is a plea for not giving up. Neither on yourself, nor others.«
Claudia Ingenhoven / MDR Kultur, Leipzig

»Daniela Krien has Rahel dive down deeper with every passing day – into the fear of aging, to her failings as a mother, down to the depths of her family history.«
Brigitte, Hamburg

»With her new novel The Fire, the author from Leipzig once more proves her talent.«
Stern, Hamburg

»How Krien transports her characters away from the world and lets the topics of the present seep in in half sentences, is reminiscent of her previous works.«
Britta Heidemann / Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, Essen

»Daniela Krien expertly links one episode to the next, lightly touching upon all the topics that she draws from the zeitgeist.«
Hadwiga Fertsch-Röver / HR2 Kultur, Frankfurt

»There’s barely anything more beautiful, elegant or gripping than Krien’s writing.«
Imke Weiter / Emotion, Hamburg
