Artist, caricaturist, illustrator, author and commercial graphic artist: Tomi Ungerer celebrates his 85th birthday on 28.11.2016.

On this occasion the Tomi Ungerer Museum, Strasburg presents from 19.11.2016 until 19.3.2017 Tomi Ungerer Forever. Over 85 artists for his 85th Birthday. The exhibition displays 150 artworks from artists that were influenced or inspired by Tomi Ungerer.

It is said that Tomi Ungerer influenced everyone – as an illustrator, storyteller, author, sculptor, farmer, butcher and activist. »The sharpest stroke in the world«, as he is also called, has continuously spread his pointed comments across the globe. Thereby creating an oeuvre unrivalled in its diversity. He has produced tens of thousands of drawings and over 100 books by him have been published by Diogenes Verlag.

Tomi Ungerer

Tomi Ungerer, born in 1931 in Strasbourg, works as an illustrator, children's book author, graphic artist and agent provocateur, and now lives with his family in Ireland and in Strasbourg. Tomi Ungerer has been awarded numerous prizes, including the ›Order of Merit of the Federal Republic of Germany‹ for his contribution to German-French cultural understanding and the ›Hans Christian Andersen Award for Illustration‹, an award which is regarded as the ›Nobel Prize‹ of children's literature. In October 2000 he was named as an ambassador for children and education by the European Council. In 2007 the French state dedicated a museum to Tomi Ungerer in his home town of Strasbourg.

His children’s book Flix will be adapted as an English animated TV series. Optioned by the British Eye Present Ltd and the Irish Pictor Productions Ltd, the project will be developed in close collaboration with Tomi Ungerer.
