An American in Venice
Published by Diogenes as Eine Amerikanerin in Venedig
We find ourselves in the apartment of Donna Leon. She observes her neighbours, not only through the window, but also straight through the walls; mostly, however, she exchanges views with them directly. In this way, she is not only initiated into the secrets of the Italian kitchen and into their family life, but is also a witness of many Italian shortcomings, which she combats as if she were Commissario Brunetti in person.
