Simone Lappert's Jump: Shortlisted for the ›Swiss Book Prize‹ 2019
Simone Lappert’s novel Jump is one of five books nominated for the ›Swiss Book Prize‹ 2019. The list was announced by the Swiss Booksellers’ and Publishers’ Association (SBVV) and the LiteraturBasel society on 17 September. The award ceremony will take place on 10 November, as part of the literary festival BuchBasel. The prize comes with an honorarium of a total of 42’000 Swiss Francs: The awardee receives 30’000 Francs, the other four finalists 3’000 Francs each.
Here’s a quote from the jury: »Set in a well-constructed mosaic of stories author Simone Lappert depicts how a single dramatic moment can affect different individual lives in the multi-layered novel Jump.«
»The question how we as a society rate empathy, how we treat people who fall out of line, who don’t act according to our norms, runs through the text.«
